The Biochemistry Undergraduate Research Scholar Award (BURSA) provides support for undergraduate students who are majoring in Biochemistry at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ18, in order to reduce financial barriers that may prevent students from obtaining appropriate research support. Recipients will be students who are pursuing research opportunities in laboratories of faculty members who are rostered in the Biochemistry department. To be eligible for funding, students must agree to the following expectations:

  • Must be committed to doing laboratory research.
  • Must remain in strong academic standing (minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA) for the awarded terms.
  • Encouraged to participate in department-wide meetings and symposia.

To be eligible for funding, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be majoring in biochemistry.
  • Must have/maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Undergraduates are not expected to have prior research experience or pre-select a mentor.

The AY 2024/2025 BURSA was awarded to Annika Stephan, Madeline Kugler, Paul Meaney, Ana Mirita, India Malkan, and Ella Stevens.

The Harold L. Chapel Undergraduate Chemistry Scholarship Fund is awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Incoming first-year, transfer, or current undergraduate enrolled full-time with a declared major in Biochemistry or Chemistry.
  • Colorado Resident.
  • Graduated from high school from one of the following Colorado counties: Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld, or Yuma.
  • Complete the CU Boulder General Scholarship Application.

The 2024 Harold L. Chapel Undergraduate Chemistry Scholarship was awarded to Biochemistry undergraduates Kayla Cook and Travis Kos.

The Bob and Dickie Lacher Scholarship Fund is awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Rising sophomores enrolled full-time with a declared major in Biochemistry or Chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • CU GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • In good standing per CU’s SAP policy

Preference is given to students who have graduated from a high school in Colorado or Minnesota. Extracurricular activities, community service, and recommendation letters will be used as secondary criteria between applicants of equal merit.

This scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided the recipient maintains a GPA of 3.0 or above.

 

The 2024 Bob and Dickie Lacher Scholarship was awarded to rising Biochemistry sophomores Asher Ferreira and Ava Winter and Biochemistry junior Kuo-Hsein "Tim" Shih.

  • Will be a junior or senior in the upcoming academic year.
  • Cumulative CU GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • Graduated from a high school in Colorado.
  • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the FASFA/CASFA.

The Connie B. and Richard J. Sluski Endowed Scholarship Fund is awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Incoming first-year or current undergraduate enrolled full-time with a declared major in Chemistry or Biochemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the FASFA/CASFA.

Preference will be given to students with an interest in using their science degree to pursue an entrepreneurial or business career. Women are particularly encouraged to apply; however, and applicants gender will not be considered a factor in the recipient selection process.

The 2024 Connie B. and Richard J. Sluski Scholarship was awarded to Olivia Gaik, Kana Nagasawa, and Adeline Steinwagner.

  • Undergraduates are not expected to have prior research experience or pre-select a mentor.
  • Preference will be given to students who have financial need as determined by the financial aid office. 
  • Preference will be given to diverse students - students from geographic areas and socioeconomic backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in the fields of the biochemical sciences, first-generation students, ethnically and racially diverse students, and/or students that have faced an unusual adversity.

The 2024 Summer Wuttke-Beckman was awarded to PiperJo Jones and Marco Ferrier.
