Event Funding
CAS Event Funding Procedures
CAS has revised event application procedures and forms. Please read through the following information carefully.
Faculty are eligible for oneÌýaward per academic year. CAS isÌýhappy to consider applications for AY 24-25 and beyond. We are especially interested in events which will align with our annual theme.
All awards are contingent upon continued funding from the Department of Education.
CAS Event Coordinator Liza Williams is holding weekly Wednesdays 9:30-10:30am during regular Spring and Fall semester weeks. CAS encourages you to meet with Liza about planning your event before the application due date. **Wednesday, March 12, Office hours 9:00-9:45, no office hours during spring break.**Ìý
CAS is implementing a two-tiered funding system, please apply with the application that best suits your needs.
Tier 1Ìý– Tier 1 funding is intended for faculty who would like to plan a larger event requiring substantial planning support from CAS. Applications considered in April and November for the following semester.
Awards available from $0Ìýto $3000 for Asia-related events. Cost-sharing with other programs is strongly encouraged.
CAS will approve up to threeÌýTier 1 applications per semester, for a total of up to sixÌýper academic year. Applications are dueÌýNovember 1Ìý(for the following Spring semester events) andÌýApril 1Ìý(for the following Fall semester events).
Tier 1 events will be fully supported by CAS. This means we will handle all event and travel arrangements, help design a poster and process all payments needed for the success of your event. Faculty members who need substantial event planning support should submit a Tier 1 application even if necessary financial support is minimal.
Priority will be given to events which relate to our annual theme.
If you have an idea you would like to develop, but your proposal is in early stages, please feel free to contactÌýLiza.Williams@colorado.edu with any questions about this application process (as early as possible before the relevant deadline), or come to .
Due to limited funding, we are unable to fund any undergraduate student-related events such as speech contests.
Download the Tier 1 application here.Applications must be submitted by a faculty member.
Tier 2Ìý– Tier 2 funding is intended for events that need only funding, or funding plus less intensive event support. Applications are due monthly during the semester on the first Friday of each month.
Awards available from $0 to $1000 for Asia-related events. Cost-sharing with other programs is strongly encouraged.
CAS will approve up to four Tier 2 applications per semester during the academic year for a maximum of $4000 in awards. Once the funding is spent for the year, no further applications will be considered.
- If approved with no event support, CAS will transfer the award to the appropriate fund 34 speedtype.
- If approved with some planning, CAS can help with moderate event planning and financial processing.
Tier 2 Applications are due by 12:00pm on the first Friday of each monthÌý(2025 dates - March 7, April 4, May 2, September 5, October 3, November 7, December 5).Ìý Applications received after each deadline will be considered in the following month's committee meeting.

If you are planning an event and you only want co-sponsorship with CAS, which would include email and website listings, but no financial support, planning or payment processing, then please fill out this form at least 4 weeks before your event. Food:
Our primary source of event funding cannot pay for food or be transferred. If your event is to include food or catering, please consider an additional source of funding for that part of the event.Ìý
Publicizing non-CAS events:
Information about "non-CAS events" (events not sponsored by CAS) may now be included in our monthly event digest and posted on our website's bulletin board. The CAS monthly digest is sent out at the beginning of each month to those on our listserve and provides detailed information about CAS sponsored events for the followingÌýweeks. The addition of non-CAS events to our event digest is designed to help our faculty promoteÌýAsia-related events that may be of interest to those subscribing to our email list.
If you would like CAS to include a NON-CAS sponsored event on our website and in our event digest, please send information (date, time, location, contact for questions and a short description) about the eventÌýby the 25th of each month for the following month's digest to Liza Williams at Liza.Williams@colorado.edu. For example, information about an event received before March 25 will be included in April's digest, which will be sent out in early April. We appreciate the information as far in advance as possible.
