Language Instructor
ALTEC continuously seeks outstanding teachers to join our instructional team. Our part-time lecturers teach non-credit classes with ourÌýlanguage classes program, whichÌýis open toÌýCU students, faculty andÌýstaffÌýas well as adults from around the state, country and world. ALTEC classes have in-person and remote options, soÌýboth local and non-local applicants are welcome to apply. Applicants must reside within the United States andÌýare required to present documentation confirming identity and eligibility to work in the United States.ÌýALTEC hires experienced teachers who have a solid understanding of language pedagogy, can create a lively atmosphere to encourage student engagement both in and out of class, as well as are confident in or willing to actively learn technology tools and best practices for remote teaching.
There is no grading or tests involved in our non-credit classes. Our lecturers spend their time onÌýteaching, syllabus/ lesson preparation, curatingÌýOpen Educational Resources (OER), authentic materials and teacher-created content,Ìýand responding to students’ questions. We utilize Zoom and Canvas as primary instruction tools. Classes are typically capped at 15 students; we occasionally allow a few additional in (maximum 3) from the waitlist, when needed. Our faculty find that ALTEC classes are the perfect complement to their other full or part-time teaching commitments, especially since they have the opportunity to teach adult learners who are motivated by personal interest in the language and culture instead of earning a grade. We are passionate about instilling a love of languages through engaging instruction and content!
Schedule
Our regular semester classesÌýare 8 weeks in length. Classes meet twice a week for 75 minutes on Monday/ Wednesday or Tuesday/ Thursday, with most in the evening and some options at noon. This comes to 20 hours of live instruction. Our summer session classes often feature alternative and intensive formats.
Levels
ALTEC levels correspond roughly to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) levels accordingly. Please see our placement guide page for more detailed information on our levels, which are different than credited courses taught at CU Boulder. Syllabi for each language are coordinated by a Language Lead.

Compensation
This position is compensated atÌý$1,924.00 per class. Compensation for summer sessions may vary.
