Olivia Shay

Olivia is a licensed clinical social worker and earned her Master of Clinical Social Work from Boston College. Before joining the behavioral health team, Olivia was a post-masters social work fellow at CAPS and provided long-term individual counseling to young adults presenting with anxiety, depression and other concerns at an outpatient group practice in Somerville, MA. Olivia also has experience conducting individual and group counseling focused on drug and alcohol use.

Olivia takes a human-centered, strengths-based approach to therapy, believing that we are all doing the best we can in our environment with the current skills and resources available to us. She understands that a strong therapeutic alliance is critical for effective therapy, and she brings authenticity to the relationship with humor and compassion. In her practice, Olivia acknowledges the impact of structural and systemic inequities on well-being and prioritizes building clients' sense of self compassion and agency within oppressive systems. In collaboration with her clients, Olivia strives to bring insight and awareness to harmful patterns and empower clients to learn healthy ways to cope with difficult emotions. Olivia's work is informed by internal family systems, acceptance and commitment therapy and feminist theories.
