ACTIVE: Faculty Development and Leadership Intensive

ACTIVE, the CU Engineering Faculty Development and Leadership Intensive, is an expense-paid, three-day programÌýopen to domestic doctoral students and new post-docs whose identity community/ies have been minoritized in STEM and who are interested in pursuing engineering faculty careers. Applicants should be graduate engineering scholars near theÌýend of their academic training or just starting post-doctoral work with at least one year remaining before entering theÌýacademic job market. Preference will be given to individuals whose research areas match those of the .
This program provides PhD candidates and new post-doc participants insight into the faculty selection andÌýhiring processes at an R1 institution to demystify the interviewing experience. ACTIVE program participantsÌýwill learn about hiring committee practices and will learn how to package their experiences andÌýunique characteristics for success in a faculty search. In addition, participants will explore the growingÌýacademic community here at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ18 and hear about upcoming employment opportunities. Program Overview: During your time on campus, you will:
- PlanÌýyour 3–5 year teaching and research portfolio
- Craft questions that you should be asking during your faculty interviews
- Interact with current CU engineering faculty and students
- Meet peers, potential future collaborators, and/or mentors to expand your professional network
- Discuss differences between research (tenure-track)Ìýand instructional faculty professional paths and interact with CU faculty in each type of role
- Experience various aspects of the beautiful CU Boulder campus and surrounding area
Applicant Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DACA recipient with at least one minoritized identity that is underrepresented among engineering faculty nationwide (race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic class, veteran status, ability, etc.)
- Be a doctoral student, preferably within two years of earning a Ph.D., or a new post-doctoral researcher who is currently planning toÌýpursue an academic career that aligns with one or more research or teaching areas within the CU Boulder College of EngineeringÌýand Applied Science
- Express an understanding of, and dedication to, inclusive excellence and diversity that would translate into your research andÌýteaching topics and methods
