Chase Wesley Raymond is an Associate Professor in the DepartmentÌýof Linguistics, as well as aÌýcore faculty member in the interdepartmental . HeÌýalso holds a secondary appointment in the , at the . Prior to coming to CU-Boulder, heÌýwas a Visiting Scientist at the in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Formally trained in both Hispanic Linguistics (PhD, UCLA, 2014) and Sociology (PhD, UCLA, 2016), Prof. Raymond is an interdisciplinary scholar of language and social life.ÌýIn his research and teaching, heÌýbrings together theories and methods from Conversation Analysis, Interactional Linguistics, Pragmatics, and Sociolinguistics to investigate language use in both mundane and institutional contexts, exploring how interactants ‘make sense’ with one another on a moment-by-moment basis as they move through interaction. He isÌýparticularly interested in situations of contact -- that is, when divergent languages, dialects, cultures, etc. come together in interaction -- with a primary focus on various aspects of the Latinx and Spanish-speaking experience in the United States.ÌýHis work has appeared in a disciplinarilyÌýdiverse set ofÌýjournals which range fromÌýLinguisticsÌý(e.g.,ÌýLanguage, Language in Society, Journal of Sociolinguistics), to Communication Studies (e.g.,ÌýResearch on Language and Social Interaction, Discourse & Communication), toÌýHealthcare (e.g.,ÌýPatient Education and Counseling).Ìý
