Roommate Selection Process
Our housing is based on Living Experiences, which may limit the roommate experience as students will have to choose which is more important, mutual roommate or living experience (hall choice).ÌýWe understand that for some students a roommate is most important. We have several options to select a roommate. Additionally, while University Housing will do its best to honor mutual roommate requests, we cannot guarantee that you will be placed together.Ìý
Due to the requirements of Engineering, Pre-Business and Environmental Design, students accepted to these colleges or assigned to Reed Hall have specific living requirements and will only be able to participate in Option 2 or 3.
Option 1 - Mutual Roommate Request
Students who have a roommate in mind prior to May 5* can indicate that preference in the housing application. Students who choose this option are prioritizing their roommate above living experience options. Students who choose this option will get an email with instructions to go back into the application in May and choose their roommate. Students who select this option will not provide hall preferences and roommates will be assigned to a traditional living hall in a double, community bath room. If you, or the intended roommate, do not fulfill the instructions for this option, the building assignment will still be a traditional living hall, and you will be eligible for Option 2.Ìý
Students who want to prioritize their living experience will have an opportunity to participate in a roommate selection process after they receive their building assignments where they can meet and match with other residents assigned to the same hall and room type(Option 2).Ìý
*This priority deadline can be moved earlier with little to no notice.
Option 2 - Roommate Selection
After students receive their building assignment, the roommate selection process is available for those who have a specific person they would like to live with that is also assigned to the same building/RAP, and for those who are interested in connecting and selecting their roommate.Ìý Students will utilize the MyCULiving portal during select dates to view and choose a mutual roommate who is assigned to their same building and double, community bath room type.Ìý
For students assigned to a double, community bath room typeÌý
- The roommate request process will begin on June 24; a building-by-building schedule will be provided by June 2. This is the timeframe that you can go into the MyCULiving Portal and select your roommate.

If you have identified a roommate you would like to live with who has been assigned to your same building and room type:Ìý
- You and your identified roommate should both email universityhousing@colorado.edu requesting to live with each other. Emails will be accepted June 24-July 22 at 11:59 p.m. MT.
- You must complete this within the date window, otherwise you will be placed with a roommate or roommates whose living preferences are similar to those you submitted in the housing application (Option 3).
- Some of our special room types are unique, with only one or two of these rooms in a building. Therefore, not all special room types are eligible to participate in the roommate selection process. Please reach out to University Housing if you have a question about your eligibility.
- Please note that we are not able to guarantee that all roommate requests will be accommodated. Roommate information will be provided in the final housing assignment email that will be posted in the MyCULiving Portal at the end of the day on July 30, 31 or Aug. 1.Ìý
