We can think of no one more deserving for this award given Andrew’s exemplary professionalism, insightfulness, selfless service and his unwavering spirit of collaboration and teamwork for OCG as well as across RIO and the entire CU Boulder campus.

Andrew’s defined role only touches the surface on all he is involved with and influences. Given his reputation as innovative and forward thinking, Andrew is often sought out by RIO and many other leaders throughout campus as a “must have” person to help tackle the myriad of personnel challenges and opportunities that continually face our campus. His ability to bring an operational mindset and perspective has proven critical to ensuring OCG and other RIO personnel considerations are at the forefront to support the increased research award growth as well as navigate the myriad of research administration process and policy changes.

Examples of projects where Andrew has helped enable success in the past year include the following:

  • Position Management:
    • OCG has been continually hiring for the last two years. Andrew has been an excellent partner in reviewing and approving position descriptions and looking at qualifications to align with campus expectations.
    • Andrew is quick to respond, provides valuable feedback, and helps us to keep our hiring moving forward.
  • OCG Market Salary Survey:
    • Gathering market survey data on staff salaries for review under Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and ensuring equality in pay as well as aligning OCG positions under campuses new position levels.
    • OCG has experienced turnover, some of which was related to low salaries. Andrew’s data gathering helped OCG to improve salary rates to be more competitive and to help with OCG’s retention.
  • Andrew met with OCG leadership multiple times about the market salary survey results and alignment with positions. He was always extremely patient and listened well to questions.
  • Andrew also presented the market salary survey information to OCG staff, providing insight to our staff on how salaries are researched and set and answering staff questions about the process. Again, Andrew was extremely patient as well as compassionate with our staff.

Andrew is a tremendous leader within CU Boulder Human Resources and outstanding partner to OCG and other RIO units. He continually, but professionally, pushes the norm, helping to drive innovation and change for the betterment of all. His integrity, adaptability and leadership during periods of opportunity and challenge make it a true privilege to work with him.
