SRS Insights: Refocusing, recommitting to our values 🦬

Dec. 12, 2024
Dear Strategic Resources and Support team,
We are writing to you jointly this month, as Pat’s time at CU Boulder comes to an end and Jennifer steps into a new leadership role, to share with you the values each member of the SRS leadership team has collectively committed themselves and their teams to upholding as we move forward.
Why these values matter
The SRS leadership team identified these values in recent discussions as core to our overarching success as we navigate change and look to the future. As noted before in this space, changes like the hiring of a new chancellor, Pat’s departure, and the subsequent reporting line shifts announced for SRS units do not change our mission or our work in supporting student success and research. In fact, it’s vital to ground ourselves in a set of values that help us remain true to that mission as circumstances, team structures and other changes occur.
While some will begin reporting to the chancellor or the provost, the SRS leaders will continue to convene and collaborate as the leaders of the campus’s major administrative units to ensure a university-first approach that best serves our campus. Together, we have identified the five values below as central to the work of serving the greater campus good.
Five core values
- Integrity: We commit to acting with honesty, ownership and courage by aligning our words and actions.
- Collaboration: We commit to work together to ensure we are all successful. This can be achieved only if we are respectful, inclusive, open to change, and willing to coordinate resources and compromise.
- Inclusivity: We commit to creating an environment that values people, honors different perspectives, demonstrates openness and kindness, asks for input, and listens.
- Adaptability: We commit to meeting the needs of our campus through continuous improvement and learning, remaining resilient, and being creative and curious.
- Accountability: We commit to taking responsibility for our decisions, actions and consequences.
Looking ahead
As we look to the new year, we hope these values provide a baseline for how we all work together to not only navigate change but also seize upon the exciting opportunities ahead for our university.
We are grateful for all you do and wish you all joy and quality time with your family and loved ones during the holidays.
Sincerely,
Pat O’Rourke, chief operating officer
Jennifer McDuffie, interim senior vice chancellor for operations
